It's not every day that a 9-year-old wins first place in his or her school's annual writing competition, but that's exactly what happened to a boy in Dayton, Ohio, this week.
Logan Wilhelm won first place in the middle school division of Power of the Pen's Western Region with a story about his family's struggle to survive after the death of his father, reports the Dayton Daily News.
Wilhelm also won first place in the high school division with a story about his school's basketball team going on to win the state championship.
"It's really cool because I didn't expect to win," Wilhelm tells WHIO-TV.
"I didn't expect to win first place, but it's really cool because I didn't expect to win second place."
Wilhelm plans to go on to college.
